Unparalled Learning
Two more OJTs joined under my wing recently. They are about to experience first-hand what it is like to wheel and deal in Philippine business selling and implementing Business Intelligence software. I told them that they would be getting experience in a vast number of industries by doing proof-of-concepts. What are the industries? See my list below: 1. Retail Banking 2. Telecommunications 3. Selling QlikView and Converting to a Mac
I had a meeting with a banking executive in a top Philippine bank who uses one of the most expensive business intelligence solutions in the world. At the end of the meeting he took some time to say that he really liked the Money Transfer Analytics application I had presented (Ry and Ken, you can celebrate too =). After our meeting, he came back and told me that after our first meeting he had...

What's it like on top?
Last night I was at one of the lounges of Makati’s high-end hotels overlooking the Ayala area. I was at a business meeting talking about pricing & payment terms and - having champagne. What’s up with that? I was recently at a meeting with a guy who had the title of Assistant Vice President or AVP. He only managed 8 people in a team. In other words, he was just a line manager...

What is the true job of a Business Analyst?
I’ve met a lot of these kinds of people holding these kinds of position in the course of my work. And the truth is very far from the word “analyst” - especially for immature companies. So what is the true job of a Business Analyst? Is he/she supposed to do analysis based on data? Wrong. A business analyst’s job is to create reports and provide some short-sighted...

Do I need a personal business card?
In the last 8 months of working for my company, I’ve given out hundreds of business cards to clients, prospects and partners. One thing I’ve realized is that if I’m no longer connected to my company, how will they be able to contact me? A simple remedy to this problem is having a personal business card. But handing out two business cards to someone is a bit of a hassle. So what...
